United World Colleges

United World Colleges (UWC) is a global movement that makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

UWC inspires young people to put their talents and energy into positive social change, no matter which future path they choose. UWC selects promising, passionate students from all over the world and gives them the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a difference.

'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world'

- Nelson Mandela, former UWC honorary president

UWC has 18 schools and colleges around the world, ranging from Japan to Costa Rica and from South Africa to Norway. Students from all over the world spend two years together on campus while studying for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Next to academics UWC students focus extensively on a wide range of extracurricular activities, particularly volunteer work within local communities, services in or around the schools and activities such as sports, theatre and music.

UWC wants education to be accessible to everyone regardless of their families’ financial situation, which is why UWC has a scholarship programme. UWC is one of the largest scholarship providers in the world, with about 80% of all UWC students receiving full or partial scholarships. These funds come from alumni who pay forward their experience and from individuals and foundations who believe in UWC's mission!
